I chose this image as the Featured Design for May 2022 in celebration of Mother's Day on May 8.
I created this design as a gift for my mother to thank her for the wonderful life she has given me.
So, to all of the biological moms, adoptive moms, stepmoms, and mother figures throughout the world, I want o to wish you all a very Happy Mother's Day!
History of Mother's Day
The origins of Mother's Day goes back to the Civil War Era where a social activist and community organizer named Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis created a women's support group named the Mother's Day Work Club that was focused on teaching the local ladies of West Virginia on how to care for their children. In addition to establishing this club, Ann founded Mothers’ Friendship Day (1868), which was designated as a day where moms of Confederate and Union soldiers could come together to promote harmony.
Right around the same time (1870), a suffragette named Julia Ward Howe wrote what’s called the Mother’s Day Proclamation, to promote world peace and pushed for a Mother’s Peace Day to be celebrated in June.
In the early 1900’s, Anna Jarvis (daughter of Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis) promoted the idea to have a day to honor mothers and the sacrifices they make for their kids. Thus, Mother’s Day was born.
