I chose this image as the Featured Design for December 2022 because no matter what religious, ethnic or cultural holiday you celebrate during this month, holiday music reminds us to a keep a balance between the the original spirit and meaning of the holiday and the commercialization and consumerism associated with the holiday. This balance can enable us to enjoy the holiday to it's fullest potential.
In an article published on the Grossepointe Music Academy website titled The importance and impact of Christmas Music, David Bolla writes:
"Music is ubiquitous with the Christmas season, and goes hand in hand with the tradition of the Holiday. Whether Christmas music is something that one enjoys or not, it has been a part of most of our childhoods, and has been around for years before that. It seems that music and Christmas have a symbiotic relationship, and will continue to bring cheer to many over the Holiday season for years to come."
This article provides a brief and informative history of Christmas Music while helping the reader gain perspective on the impact and role music has played in the evolution of the Christmas Season over time. And, although the article focuses on Christmas Music, I do believe David Bolla's insights can be applied to all music associated with all December religious and cultural holidays and celebrations.

I gifted this design to my daughter as she entered her freshman year of college in pursuit of a degree in Vocal Performance and Ethno-Musicology. This design was an intention from me to her as reminder to keep the balance between the love and joy she has for music with the intense and challenging work that was required to enable her to achieve her goals in her college career, and more importantly ~ throughout her life.
